The full-back left Anfield for Real Madrid last summer when Liverpool were struggling at right-back. Liverpool were told they should try to bring Trent Alexander-Arnold back to the club to address the long-standing problem at right-back. The academy graduate made a controversial move to Real Madrid over a year ago.
Although his contract expired when he left Anfield last summer, Liverpool still received approximately £10 million in transfer fees, while Real Madrid completed the deal before the Club World Cup last summer. However, Arnold struggled in his first season at the Bernabéu, and injuries also affected his performance.
The 27-year-old had a chance to secure a place at Real Madrid this summer with new manager Jose Mourinho taking over. He started in Saturday's preseason friendly against Fiorentina, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
At the same time, Liverpool are currently lacking what this academy product provides: he can consistently play right-back and bring quality to the ball, whether it's advancing the ball from the back or delivering crosses from the flanks.
These issues persist this summer. Liverpool have yet to sign another right-back for new manager Andoni Iraola, with Conor Bradley still recovering from injury and Frimpong's form being unpredictable, leaving his options very limited.
Given the current situation for both sides, TalkSPORT commentator Angela Kelly suggested that Liverpool should consider bringing Trent Alexander-Arnold back. She said, "I know what it feels like for a player to 'betray' the club according to your own ideas, especially betraying his own people, especially if you're a Liverpool player. I understand."
